ぼくたちは、自分たちが体制から捨てられた/無視された世代だと感じている。政府は巨額のお金を外国での戦争につぎ込み、政党の論理に振り回されてばかりいた。政治家は、テクノロジに無理解な老人ばかりで、その状況が変わる気配はない。企業もぼくらに背を向けた。2008年の金融危機の年に成人になった人は多いが、大学を出ることが幸福な生活への鍵だという神話は、すでに破産していた。卒業しても、仕事はなかった。

だからぼくたちは、自分の仕事を自分で作り出した。自分のスタートアップを作ったり、YouTubeでビデオを作ってお金を稼いだ。既存のNGOはほとんど停滞し官僚化していたので、自分たち独自の非営利活動も作り出した。有機栽培野菜や無添加食品を、自分たちで作って売った。もうぼくたちは、あなたたちから仕事をもらおうとは思わない。あなたのアドバイスも、指示も要らない。もうすぐ、あなたがたのレコード会社や出版社も要らなくなる。iTunesやAmazonなどの上で、ぼくたちが、自分でそれをやるから。たぶん、お客さんとして以外は、もうあなたたちは全然要らない。
